Persian Rugs
Persian rugs are the oldest rugs produced. The ancient Persian rug was found in burial mound in Siberia. This Pazyryk rug was conserved in frozen water which protected it from decay. Persian rugs date back to fifth century BC and show mainly geometric and floral. Persian rugs were originally made of wool and silk and were a privilege of royalty.
Animal and human figure on Persian rugs attract with simplicity and subtleness. Iranians are real masters of rug weaving. They specially breed sheep to give the inst wool and specially tend plant to receive permanent dyes for fibers. In ancient times the profession of a weaver was highly honored but today there’s a tendency of decreasing number of weavers.
But all the same Iran remains one of the leading producers of high quality hand made Persian rugs. Persian rugs can be differentiated by the province they were made in. Kashan and Kerman produce Persian rugs of different quality with the first known for durability and the second for soft very large rugs.
